Culinary Arts (CTE Certified)

New Dawn Charter Schools proudly offers a CTE-certified Culinary Arts pathway, providing students with industry-aligned training and real-world experience in the fast-growing hospitality field.
Through hands-on instruction and internship placements in professional kitchens, catering businesses, and hospitality settings, students develop essential skills such as:
  • Food preparation and kitchen safety
  • Sanitation and industry standards
  • Teamwork in high-pressure environments
  • Customer service and professionalism
  • Time management and workplace accountability
As a Career and Technical Education (CTE) certified program, our culinary pathway ensures students are learning skills that meet workforce standards while earning their high school diploma.
Students graduate not only with academic credits, but with practical, career-ready experience that can lead directly to employment, further technical training, or entrepreneurship in the culinary and hospitality industries.

A Career-Focused Internship Program for NYC High School Students

At New Dawn Charter Schools, we are more than a transfer high school in NYC — we are a career-connected learning community.
Our internship program is designed specifically for over-age, under-credited students who benefit from hands-on, real-world learning alongside academic progress toward graduation.
Students don’t just recover credits — they build professional experience.

How Our Internship Model Works

Academic Week
Students focus on:
  • Credit recovery
  • Regents preparation
  • Graduation requirements
  • College readiness
Internship Week
Eligible students complete up to 20 hours per week at approved internship sites across NYC, including Brooklyn and Queens. This structured rotation connects classroom learning to workplace application.

Who Qualifies for Internships?

Students may participate once they:
  • Earn 11+ credits
  • Demonstrate academic progress
  • Complete workplace readiness training
  • Show respect, responsibility, and resilience.
Our internship director carefully prepares each student before placement.

Why Internship-Based Learning Matters for Over-Age Students

Many transfer high school students disengage because traditional school feels disconnected from real life.
Our model:
  • Re-engages disconnected learners
  • Builds professional identity
  • Connects education to future careers
  • Increases post-graduation readiness
Students graduate with a diploma AND experience.
